Formatting number field always shows currency symbol

I have a report created using XI designer pulling data from a MS Access database.  I have fields that I have set with a custom format of "(55,555.56)".  The property to "enable currency symbol" is not checked.  When I preview or run the report, the currency symbol always shows and I am not able to turn that off.  How can I format the field to not show the currency field?

1. Database is MS Access.

2. The field type in the MS Access table is set to currency.

3. In the field format editor, the only options checked are "Thousands separator" and "Leading zero".  All other options are not checked.  Sample shows "(55,555.56)".
